Desert Valley Flowers

Pacific Crest Trail Fresh: While thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in Southern California, I was incredibly lucky to coincide with the desert flower season, which is as short as it is ephemeral. The desert valley is transformed during a few days every year, usually sometime in April when sparse rains come to the normally parched and infernally hot lanscape. It is an incredible experience: I had never seen mile after mile of tiny desert flowers carpeting the whole landscape, and I have yet to see it since.

If you live in or around Los Angeles or San Diego, I highly recommend trying to see this phenomenon if you can.
